I thought I foloowed the instructions faily accurately, but here is what happens using the pro version:

2009-06-29T23:38:03: Processing account "user" on server "domain".com:110
2009-06-29T23:38:07: 1 messages on this account
2009-06-29T23:38:07: Processing message 1
2009-06-29T23:38:10: PopGrabber could not connect to SMTP Server "exchangeserver":25: Could not connect to SMTP Server: The operation is not allowed on non-connected sockets.
2009-06-29T23:38:12: Account for user "user" on server "domain".com finished with errors
2009-06-29T23:38:12: Finished processing 1 accounts
2009-06-29T23:38:12: ***** Download cycle finished *****

I am not all that familiar with configuring this and any help would be greatly appreciated.

You do not need to remove the SMTP connector, there seems to be a problem with the SMTP server's address or port number, or with a firewall or antivirus.

The most probable reason is that the Antivirus on the machine where PopGrabber is installed is blocking outgoing connections to Port 25, check your Antivirus or Firewall configuration to allow connections at least to the Exchange server.

Another possibility for this error is that the SMTP virtual server is not using port 25. Open the Exchange System Manager and look for the Virtual SMTP Server. In the properties, verify that the server is using port 25. If not, change the PopGrabber configuration to the port Exchange is using.

Let us know if this helps.

it was a result of a typo on the exchange server name... duh!

But now I get a non-delivery sent to postmaster:

Reporting-MTA: dns;'domain'.com
Received-From-MTA: dns;'smtp server'
Arrival-Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2009 07:49:20 -0500

Final-Recipient: rfc822;sscadmin@'domain'.local
Action: failed

Hello,

please make sure that your Exchange SMTP virtual server is correctly configured. This error can occur if your SMTP virtual server does not have a valid fully qualified domain name or it the DNS lookup of the SMTP virtual server failed.

Also verify that "domain.local" is configured for inbound email as explained in this Microsoft knowledgebase article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260973. If you are using a multiple domain names, make sure the additional domains are configured as described in this article: http://www.petri.co.il/configure_exchange_2000_2003_to_receive_email_for_other_domains.htm.
