Hello,

What may be happening is that the logfile is not being updated in the PopGrabber administration console (but the emails are being downloaded and the information is being written to a new log file).

Can you confirm that PopGrabber is really not downloading any messages when this happens?

By shutdown and reload do you mean close and reopen the PopGrabber console or do you actually restart the PopGrabber windows service?

Regards,

When i get in at 7:00 the popgrabber program is up and shows the last transaction completed at  2009-06-24T23:59:19
if i push the button "get mail" nothing happins.
so i "stop service"
"X" out of the program.
then launch Popgrabber, Get mail.
and it works for another day..................

You do not need to have the console open in order to retrieve the messages.

What happens if you just close the program (without stopping the service first) and open it again?

Also, can you tell us the product version you are using?

We also have this problem with PopGrabber stopping at midnight.  We started to have this problem about 3 or 4 weeks ago and it has happenned three times so far.  We are using version 1.0.4.502 and Exchange Server 2007 version 08.01.0340.000.

Stopping Service and then Starting Service does not work.  We have to close the program and restart it.

We have seven logfiles configured.  Note the seven errors saying "Could not open log file".  Also, this error occured at midnight on 4th August.  Note the date/time in the log displayed is 29th July.  That would be the seventh oldest logfile - is it trying to open and re-use the file?  We only re-boot our server once a month - so the program would not have been res-started since it used that file.  Is it fully closing the logfiles so they can be re-used?

Any ideas?

Hello,

we have seen this problem if the console is left open all the time. The error "could not open logfile" is not a critical error and happens if the PopGrabber console tries to read a logfile that does not exist yet (for example, because the service has not begun the first download after midnight). This error does not indicate any problem with the PopGrabber service. You do not need to restart the service. Just close the PopGrabber console and open it a few minutes later.

We have an updated PopGrabber version that will be released shortly which improves the handling of the logfiles in the console.

A new PopGrabber Professional release (version 1.0.5) is available for all registered customers.

This version includes the following additional features:

  • Functionality to leave large messages on the server without downloading them, or deleting them and sending a notification
  • New option to disable logging to the windows application log
  • It is now possible to import account settings from a comma or tab delimited text file

The newest release also fixes the PopGrabber console problem of not updating the log file after midnight.
