It happend again yesterday. This time the pop grabber didn't fail completely but kept on running and did download the other accounts. Thx for this. This makes the problem a little more bearable.

Again it failed to download a certain email message. I'll post it below. The log file showed:

2008-04-05T11:07:31: Processing account (username) on server pop.(server)
2008-04-05T11:07:31: Establishing POP3 connection to pop.(server) on
port 110
2008-04-05T11:07:31: Logging in to POP3 Server
2008-04-05T11:07:32: Retrieving message count
2008-04-05T11:07:32: 1 message(s) on server
2008-04-05T11:07:32: Retrieving message 1
2008-04-05T11:08:33: Error downloading message 1: Unable to read data from
the transport connection.

The message:

-- MESSAGE --

If it would help i can post a spam email message that does get accepted or i can try to inject one of the faulty messages to see if it fails again. If you need anything else just ask.

Further: I don't know if it would be possible but it would be great if the popgrabber doesn't skip the whole account but tries to process the next message. This would make our customer happy and if he is happy i'm happy Smiley. This would also make the problem a little less severe.

greetings

Hi again,

do you have any firewall/antivirus which could be interrupting the transmission. If we send the exact same messages to our test server it is received without any problems. The error message indicates that the connection is somehow dropped in the middle of the transmission.

Could you give us more information about the POP3 server you are downloading the messages from (program name and version)?

We will keep trying to reproduce the problem.

We have a antivirus program but we disabled it almost completely to eliminate that problem. Tomorrow i'll see if i can find something in its log files but i really doubt it.  We don't have a firewall except a standard home router with build in firewall capabilities. That to shouldn't provide any trouble because before the sbs server we worked with outlook and never had any trouble.

I don't know exactly which program our isp uses as its pop server but i'll try to find out.

At the moment i can't give you much information but i'll do my best tomorrow.

greetings

It may be possible to obtain some information about the POP3 server by doing the following:

telnet eclarsys.com 110
+OK Hello there.
CAPA
+OK Here's what I can do:
STLS
TOP
USER
LOGIN-DELAY 10
PIPELINING
UIDL
IMPLEMENTATION Courier Mail Server

The last line (in our case) gives us the POP3 software running (unfortunately not the version).

It would also help us to know the antivirus program you are using.

Thanks

Hello

The pop server doesn't annouce it's implementation.

We are using Panda business secure with exchange. You can download a demo version of this software.

We installed Panda Security with Exchange and the test messages go through without problems. We will prepare a special version of PopGrabber to log the complete communication with the server to see if we finally find the source of the problem.

We split this topic in 3 separate ones so that other users find the appropriate information easier.
