This is a great program!  I have PopGrabber Standard v1.0.3 installed on a SBS2003 server with 54 email accounts.  It is set to download every 2 minutes.  Problem is PopGrabber will just stop downloading emails for no reason.  However, the service is still running.  The PopGrabber logs are set to Debug but the logs do not indicate any abnormal behavior - as the last log entry will be a normal entry.  It does not hang on any one email account but appears to be random.  If I use services.msc to stop/start the PopGrabberService then it will start downloading again.  I have NtsfDisableLastAccessUpdate set to zero.  Thank you for your support.  -Emile [IT Manager]

Hello,

do you have PopGrabber installed in the same machine as the server? Can you describe a little bit more about your configuration?

We are currently working o a solution to this problem, but have not been able to reproduce in our test server. It seems one thing in common is that this problems happens on SBS 2003.

Do you have the Microsoft Pop3 Connector also installed? Do you see any errors or warning in the system or application protocol for Windows?

Hello

We have tot popgrabber on the same machine. The popgrabber was running fine for almost 10 days. After we restarted the server for some updates the popgrabber started as expected but it stopt working after 7 hours or so.

I didn't have much time to search but i didn't find any errors in any log file. I'm more then happy to give you log files or more information if you want. Just tell me what you need.

For now the server is running smooth again for 2 days. If he crashes again i'll let you know.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, PopGrabber is installed on the SBS 2003 server.  The reason I purchased PopGrabber is to be able to pull email from my POP3 accounts every two minutes instead of the minimum of every 15 minutes supported by the SBS's native POP3 Connector.

Yes, I do have the SBS's native POP3 Connector configured and set to retrieve every hour.  Since the native POP3 Connector had already been configured when I installed PopGrabber, I have been using it as a fallback in case the PopGrabber fails.  I can turn off the native POP3 Connector once PopGrabber is working reliably.

As a work around, I have created a batch file (listed below) to stop and restart the PopGrabber service and have scheduled it to run every hour with the task scheduler.
   @echo off
   net stop PopGrabber
   net start PopGrabber

The problem appears to occur randomly and their is no entries in the PopGrabber log or event logs that provide any possible causes.

Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Hello,

our server has been running smoothly until now so it's difficult to trace the source of the problem, however we have an idea of what could be happening and we are currently modifying the POP3 connection code. We will try to have a new release ready by next week.

Hi,

I'm a collegue of vmangelschots who posted here earlier. I just wanted to let you know that the problem appears more frequently, about once every day the popgrabber just stops working.

We'd really appreciated should you be able to fix the problem. Should you require more information or help (for example testing, etc) please let us know.

Regards,

Hi,

Here is the PopGrabber Installer Version 1.0.5. It has a completely rewritten POP3 and SMTP engine.

Please note that we have still not done extensive testing with this version, so please use it only on a test account.

I have downloaded the released version of v1.0.5 from your main site.  Will it work with the same GrabberAccounts.bin from version 1.0.3 so I do not have to re-enter all of my POP3 email accounts?

Thanks for the response!

Yes, all Versions use the same format to save the account information.

Just uninstall the old version and install the new version (in the same folder) and your accounts will be there. Just in case, you can make a backup of the file GrabberAccounts.bin.

We still have some problems although this one seems to be a different one.

The log file shows:

2008-03-30T01:11:50: Connecting to SMTP Server localhost on port 25

2008-03-30T01:11:50: Forwarding message to planning@(domain)

2008-03-30T01:11:51: Deleting message from POP3 Server

2008-03-30T01:11:51: Disconnecting from SMTP Server

2008-03-30T01:11:51: Retrieving message 2

2008-03-30T01:12:52: Error downloading message 2:

And pop grabber stopped working.

When i restarted the service and download the emails manually it started downloading the emails of the accounts before this one but it froze again on that message. I'll try to post that message as soon as possible

greetings

Here is a little bit more information:

first of all: if the popgrabber hangs on that email message the cpu goes to 50% (on a dual core machine). and stays there until the services is restarted. I once tried again to download the email messages but i got the same error. After i deleted the email on the remote server everything worked fine again. Here is the email message that caused the trouble:

---- EMAIL MESSAGE ----

if you need extra information than please ask.

greetings

Hi again,

We haven't been able to find the problem with this message, however, we have updated the PopGrabber Free and Standard installers to generate more detailed reports in case of errors. We will keep testing the program to find any bugs which may be causing this problem.
